    Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)

Technique used during In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to screen embryos for genetic abnormalities before they are transferred into the uterus

What is Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)?

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is a technique used during In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to screen embryos for genetic abnormalities before they are transferred into the uterus. PGT involves analyzing embryos for specific genetic conditions, chromosomal abnormalities, or inherited genetic disorders. This testing allows us to identify embryos with the best chance of leading to a healthy pregnancy, reducing the risk of genetic disorders and improving overall success rates.

    When PGT is Required?

PGT is recommended in various scenarios where there is a concern about genetic conditions. It is often utilized by couples with a known genetic disorder who want to reduce the risk of passing on hereditary conditions to their children. PGT is also advised for individuals or couples who have had recurrent miscarriages or repeated IVF failures, as it helps identify embryos with chromosomal abnormalities that may be contributing to these issues. Additionally, PGT is beneficial for women of advanced maternal age, as the risk of chromosomal abnormalities increases with age. By using PGT, we can select embryos with normal chromosomal profiles, enhancing the chances of a successful implantation and reducing the likelihood of pregnancy complications.

    The PGT Process

At Kamna Fertility, the Preimplantation Genetic Testing process is carefully integrated into your IVF treatment plan. The procedure begins with ovarian stimulation to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved and fertilized in our advanced laboratory. The resulting embryos are cultured and monitored for development. Once the embryos reach a suitable stage, typically on day 5 or 6, a small number of cells are biopsied from each embryo. These cells are then analyzed for genetic abnormalities using sophisticated genetic testing techniques. The results of the testing help us select the embryos with the best genetic profiles for transfer.
