Intracytoplasmic sperm injection
IVF in which a single sperm cell is injected directly into the cytoplasm of an egg
What is ICSI?
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is an advanced form of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) that involves directly injecting a single sperm into an egg to facilitate fertilization. IVF ICSI is a highly specialized technique designed to address male infertility issues, including low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or abnormal sperm morphology.Traditional fertilization methods may not work effectively in these cases, but ICSI bypasses these challenges, making it a valuable option for couples who have struggled to conceive.
The IVF ICSI procedure begins with the collection of both eggs and sperm. After selecting the healthiest sperm, a single sperm is carefully injected directly into an egg. This bypasses the natural fertilization process, allowing for successful fertilization even when sperm quality is compromised. Once fertilization occurs, the embryos are cultured and monitored before being transferred to the woman’s uterus.
ICSI is particularly beneficial for men with severe sperm abnormalities or low sperm count, providing them with the opportunity to father a child. It is also used in cases where previous IVF cycles have failed due to fertilization issues. This technique has significantly improved the success rates of IVF treatments, offering a promising solution for couples facing infertility challenges.
By using IVF ICSI, the chances of achieving a successful pregnancy are significantly increased, making it an ideal option for many couples struggling with male infertility. This cutting-edge procedure has revolutionized fertility treatments, providing hope for those who may have otherwise had limited options for conceiving. IVF ICSI represents a breakthrough in assisted reproductive technology, offering a reliable and effective solution for couples aiming to start or expand their families.
Causes Addressed by ICSI
ICSI is an effective treatment for various male infertility problems. It is commonly recommended for cases where there are issues with sperm quality or quantity, including low sperm count (oligospermia), poor sperm motility (asthenozoospermia), or abnormal sperm shape (teratozoospermia). ICSI is also used in situations where previous IVF cycles have failed due to fertilization issues, or when sperm retrieval methods such as sperm aspiration are required. Additionally, ICSI can be beneficial for couples with unexplained infertility or those undergoing fertility preservation treatments.
The ICSI Treatment Process
At Kamna Fertility, our ICSI procedure is carried out with precision and care, guided by our team’s extensive experience. The process begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your fertility needs and a personalized treatment plan. Ovarian stimulation is initiated to produce multiple eggs, which are closely monitored through ultrasounds and blood tests. Once the eggs are mature, they are retrieved through a minor surgical procedure performed under sedation.
In our advanced laboratory, each retrieved egg is injected with a single sperm using a fine needle in a highly controlled environment. This precise technique helps ensure successful fertilization even in challenging cases. After fertilization, the embryos are monitored for a few days to select the best quality embryos for transfer. The chosen embryos are then transferred into the uterus through a simple procedure that typically does not require anesthesia. Following the transfer, a blood test is conducted approximately two weeks later to confirm pregnancy.
